MUSEUM MOUTH TO RELEASE ‘POPCORN FISH GUINEA PIG’ ON APRIL 29

Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig. “What else do you call a noisy punk-pop album about the weird time in your life when you felt like a Sim in a dream world? Where instead of a green diamond floating above your head it was your actual brain? An album that’s not only heavier, but also prettier, and softer than anything else you’ve ever released before?”

And somehow, when the band’s standout album title is explained like that by Museum Mouth vocalist/drummer Karl Kuehn…everything suddenly makes perfect sense.

Museum Mouth will release Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig, their aptly named fourth full-length album, on April 29 via Rory Records – Max Bemis of Say Anything’s imprint within Equal Vision Records. On Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig Kuehn and his bandmates, guitarist Graham High and bassist Kory Urban, explore the overwhelming emotions (ranging from nostalgia to trauma, with a splash of self-realization) that come from a move back to one’s hometown after years away, and re-exploring small town life as an adult.

“Sometimes you go through shit, some of it is unbelievable shit (good or bad), some of it is kinda fun. Sometimes you move back home and you realize why you’re the neurotic, pop culture obsessed, queer fool you are,” reveals Kuehn. “And sometimes you find out that you really like that person…I know that in the downtime, and the loneliness that comes from living in a small town in your mid-twenties, I found out I sure did.”

“When I’m writing songs with the intention of a focused release, I like to have a color palette to use as quality control,” notes Kuehn. “You hold the riffs, the melodies, and the words you’re writing up to it and ask, ‘Does this fit?’ I remember Kory asking what I wanted the new record to sound like, early in 2014, and at a loss for adjectives to describe what I had already written I told him, ‘I want it to sound like it was made on a 3D printer that only has magenta ink.'”

Museum Mouth offers a unique blend of lo-fi indie rock with grungy pop undertones and a diary-like presentation of lyrics that showcase an unabashed sense of vulnerability and honesty. Kuehn’s charisma soars throughout their entire discography as he pleads through past missteps, regret, fear, heartache, self-doubt AND self-acceptance, and the all-encompassing rush (and crush) of chasing after a relationship. The sincerity and depth of emotion emanates freely and welcomely, ultimately leaving the listener feeling like they’re hanging out with and listening to their best friend [attempt to] sort out their life.

To date, Museum Mouth has released three full-length albums: Alex I Am Nothing (2014), Sexy But Not Happy (2012) and Tears In My Beer (2010), and two EPs: U R WHO U LET DIE (2012), and I Am The Idiot Of The Jungle (2010). The trio has shared stages with the likes of Diarrhea Planet, Pity Sex, Bomb the Music Industry!, Creative Adult, Elvis Depressedly, and Eternal Summers and have performed at FEST, Hopscotch, Reverb Fest, and more.

Next month, Museum Mouth will head out on a full US tour supporting Say Anything, mewithoutYou, and Teen Suicide. All upcoming tour dates can be found below.
