Thank God, that Equal Vision has finally signed one of the very new school hardcore bands ever (!). Reflections records from The Netherlands distributed the old MLIW releases in the past. They originally came out on Deathwish records in the States. My Love My Way" and "Witness" where the very first releases, that I owned. These releases totally reminded me to Boy Sets Fire in itīs hardest and darkest moments. But I also felt reminded to the brutality of Shai Halud and the melancholy, that you find in As Friends Rust. The singers voice sometimes even shows a very small similarity to Tim McIlrath from Rise Against. Now Equal Vision has signed the band and well, what should I say? The record has become an overwhelming masterpiece in the hardcore music genre. Everything that I liked so much about Shai Hulud, Earth Crises, Turmoil, New Found Glory or Stretch Arm Strong suddenly shows now on an exceeding record, that contains brutality, frustration, power and at least melody. Yes, Modern Life Is War is a pretty hard, but very melodic band and the sing-a-long factor is very high. Check out their records, because I am sure, that this band will become one of the biggest and most well known bands in the history of hardcore music. Oliver |
