Matt Pryor premieres “Words Get in the Way” on The AV Club
Matt Pryor (of The Get Up Kids) has released a new song – “Words Get In The Way” featuring Steve Soboslai (of Punchline). The song comes from his upcoming solo album Wrist Slitter – due out November 11th via Rory Records/Equal Vision Records. Stream “Words Get In The Way” on AV Club: http://avc.lu/1gwMkGG

Pryor delves into his collaboration with Soboslai, “All I had was this guitar riff. I went to the studio with my drummer and had him play a beat in a loop. The idea was to have a bunch of my friends who are songwriters come up with different ideas for the song and then I’d mash them all together. But, nobody went for it. Nobody but Steve who came up with the ‘Everything will be fine’ line. So, I kinda wrote the lyrics around that one line. I also debated whether people would get confused between this and the Gloria Estefan song of the same name but I decided to risk it.”
Though best known for his work as the primary singer-songwriter for The Get Up Kids, Pryor has a vast musical catalog including his folk-tinged group The New Amsterdams, children’s music project Terrible Twos and indie-rock super group Lasorda – featuring Nate Harold (fun.), Mike Standberg (Kevin Devine & The Goddamn Band), and Dustin Kinsey (The New Amsterdams). Never one to slow down, Pryor also contributes to Chicago start-up Downwrite – a website that enables artists to create fan-commissioned songs and connect with fans on a personal and creative level – and performs online concerts for StageIt – an online platform dedicated to monetized live streamed performances. In 2012, Pryor started his own Nothing To Write Home About podcast wherein he interviews fellow musicians and industry friends such as Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra), Chris Conley (Saves The Day), Kevin Devine, Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), and more.
In addition to the previously announced tour dates, Pryor will be joining Max Bemis (Say Anything), Perma, Merriment, and Allison Weiss for a west coast tour in January 2014. Pryor will also be hitting the road with Weiss for a run in the United Kingdom in February 2014. Full dates listed below.
