We Came As Romans announce Fall Headlining Tour

We Came As Romans will headline the ‘I’m Alive Tour’ this fall with support from Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Texas In July, and Close To Home.

The Michigan-based sextet will release their sophomore full-length album, Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be, on September 13th. The tour will kick off on the same day, with a hometown CD release show at The Crowfoot Ballroom in Pontiac, MI.

The band revealed the album’s cover artwork last night on The painting was done by Paul Romano [Chiodos, Mastodon], who also created the cover of We Came As Romans’ debut full-length album, To Plant A Seed. Guitarist and lyricist Joshua Moore and bassist Andrew Glass worked together to come up with the visual concept for the cover and then collaborated with Romano to bring the powerful imagery to life.

Moore explains that the idea for the piece was developed long before the album was even completed stating, “We knew going into everything what the direction of the CD was going to be, the whole concept behind it and how we wanted to be portrayed as a band. The lyrics follow a sort of “dark to light” theme as the album goes on. We, as a band, discovered a lot of negativity in our lifestyle that we hadn’t truly realized or noticed in the past and this CD is a lot about dealing with that and coping when things turn out the opposite of how you’d imagined they would.”

Glass adds, “Working with Joshua’s lyrics, I went to Paul with a pretty clear illustration in mind. We really wanted to incorporate the same figure as in the To Plant A Seed artwork, but as you can see, he isn’t a little boy anymore. We feel like we’ve all grown and matured as a band and as individuals, so the figure himself has done just that as well. At the same time, he is still being torn between good and bad, which is represented by the light and the dark.”

Displaying much darker themes and a greater sense of struggle, Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be directs listeners into a more open-eyed and realistic approach to life, while still incorporating We Came As Romans’ signature emphasis on looking forward and looking out for one another. “Mis//Understanding” and “Understanding What We’ve Grown To be” – the first and last track off of the album, respectively, are now available on iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers.

The 12-track album was recorded with longtime friend and producer, Joey Sturgis [The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack!] at Foundation Recording Studio. The complete tracklisting for We Came As Romans’ album, Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be, can be seen below:
