Win An Original Painting By John Gourley
Imagine, it’s 1474 and you’re a tailor near the Verrochio workshop where a budding painter, Leonardo da Vinci works, and in exchange for your services, he gives you one of his paintings.
Or, you’re living in Florence in 1280 and Cimabue’s Madonna Enthroned somehow lands in your lap.
How about this: it’s 1988, you’re cleaning out your grandmother’s attic and come across an Andy Warhol canvas that was heretofore undiscovered.
OK, so maybe the above examples are rooted in Fantasyland, but here in the 21st century, in the age of email, you have a very real opportunity to own an original painting by an up-and-coming artist.
Portugal. The Man‘s front man, John Baldwin Gourley may not be in the same league as da Vinci or Monet or Dali – only history will tell us that. But, you CAN have one of Gourley’s framed, original paintings to call your very own, and for FREE.
Following the release of the band’s 2007 album Church Mouth, Gourley painted a series called the “Thank You Show,” with most of the paintings being sent out to special supporters of the band. Only 30 were painted, and all featured Gourley’s trademark surreal, psychedelic-era art. As part of the release of Portugal. The Man’s new album, The Satanic Satanist (out July 21), the band is giving away a Gourley original from that show, and all you’ve got to do is be a member of the band’s email list. Next Tuesday, May 26, one lucky winner will be randomly chosen to receive Gourley’s original painting. And who knows what it could be worth 500 years from now?
Log onto the band’s website and join the band’s mailing list. It’s also the best way to find out what’s new with one of the best still-under-the-mainstream bands around.
